This week we experienced the first cooler temperatures of the school year and we all practiced putting on and zipping or buttoning our jackets. The "up and over" method of putting on a jacket can be mastered by children as young as toddlers. If you are unfamiliar with it, please stop by the classroom any afternoon to see a quick demonstration.
In cooler temperatures children are able to see great changes in the natural parts of our outdoor environment. As long as there is no precipitation, children may continue to work in the garden and play outside during recess or aftercare with appropriate jackets and hats. Please do not send long scarves as they tend to get caught in tight places or lost and PLEASE label all clothing.
Our parent teacher conferences will continue after the Thanksgiving break and a new signup sheet will be on the classroom door during this Wednesday's Thanksgiving luncheon. You may stay for our potluck luncheon from 11:30-12:30. Please come earlier for setup or leave later for the cleanup to log in more volunteer hours!
As a large group we have been looking more closely at native peoples of our continent and and sharing classic stories such as the Cherokee's first woman and the strawberry. Another version I recommend is called, "The First Strawberries". Before the short break you can check out from your local library and enjoy it over the long weekend.
On Tuesday we sent home a notice about head lice and how to check and treat it. Here is a link to help identify head lice: http://www.licesquad.com/resources/articles/identifying-head-lice/
This year I am particularly thankful for sharing in the joy of your child's education. Thank you for your support in our school-wide food drive, thank you for your support with our classroom fundraising activities, and thank you for reading this blog each week. I wish you long restful weekend full of good food, family, and friends.
See you in December!
Ms. Joanna Boone
