Today we cleaned and organized our classroom to prepare ourselves for the next few weeks of work. It was amazing how many golden beads that were found under the shelves. Just like a never-ending treasure hunt. Unfortunately we did not find the small missing piece of Asia missing from the map of continents, but hopefully it will turn up in the next week.
Prior to the teacher workday we were busy with full attendance days! During our large group meetings we had many interesting presentations and sharings. On Monday we shared what makes us feel most special. Most children mentioned their moms, dads, grandmas, and grandpas. One child said that they feel special digging in the garden and another mentioned that they feel special in Jamaica.
Picture day went well and everyone looked their best for the photo shoot. Thankfully we finished before the afternoon. The rain has made our playground times full of mud. We have learned how to smack our shoes against the concrete siding before going inside, but somehow the mud still comes inside. These experiences help us perfect out cleaning skills and the skills involved in changing clothes.
On Thursday we started our morning with a presentation of Venezuela. The children asked questions like, "How many people are in Venezuela? Are there fruits in Venezuela? Does Venezuela have snow?" The presenters were able to answer these questions and tell us more about the geography and the typical food and music. We learned about the difference between Colombian and Venezuelan arepas, sampled tequenos, and listened to typical music from Venezuela.
We look forward to seeing more presentations next week and sharing more food at the Hispanic Heritage luncheon at 11:00 in our classroom. You may come earlier or stay later to also help with the setup or cleanup. If you have not signed up to share a dish, please take a look at our signup sheet on the inside of the door.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Ms. Joanna Boone
