At the beginning of the week the children explored two more land forms: a cape and a bay. The cape is a great place for a lighthouse and the bay is better for a beach. After hearing about beaches many children shared about how much they enjoy the beach. Some children spent the last teacher workday at the beach with their family.
While the children were away on Wednesday we put out a few new works and created an ellipse in the center of our floor space. This ellipse was used to celebrate Ms. Regalado's birthday on Thursday morning. As she walked with the globe in an elliptical pattern around the candle, (representing the sun), we sang for her and heard about her life. We shortened the trips by asking that each time we sing, it represents ten years of her life. She shared photos of her as a little girl with her mom and dad, a photo from her wedding day, and a photo of her two daughters! One child commented that her hair has changed since her wedding photo. Each child shared a wish with her before starting their work for the morning.
A Florida Cooter, (http://srelherp.uga.edu/turtles/pseflo.htm), came for a visit and the children had the opportunity to hold the turtle and feel the skin on its hind legs. When an animal comes to visit the children usually ask, "does it bite?". We talk about approaching animals carefully and only touching them if it is safe. The turtle was later released to a nearby canal.
Next Friday October 2nd will be our first pizza party from 2-5 PM! Children that attend may also bring a different change of clothes to wear and a favorite stuffed animal. This classroom fundraiser supports us at the end of the year with purchases for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Water Day, and graduation. If you can't make this event, we have at least two more planned for the year. Last year we had a little extra and we were able to get new rugs for the classroom. We ask that all children that plan to attend have the permission slip and $15 fee turned into the classroom by Wednesday, September 30th. This will help us order pizzas and arrange for a special craft.
Have a great rest of the week!
