This week gave us the chance to learn more about Australian culture and unique ecosystems. In the book, 'Australia ABC' we further explored the culture of aboriginal art and music as well as European influence on this continent. We listened to didgeridoo music and created our own versions from used paper rolls in the art area.
Towards the end of the week we listened to and learned about the song, "Waltzing Matilda", and saw an amazing video shared from a parent's dive trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The children were quick to identify the clown fish, (first described as Nemo), and later were amazed at the sizes of large groupers and tiny glistening shrimp.
Two students brought in tadpoles that we have had the pleasure of observing. Some children have kept daily reports on the total numbers and morphs. Once they get bigger we will be able to determine if they are native or non-native and whether or not we will release them.
This week we also began preparations for our Mother's Day event. The last month and a half of school are very busy times and full of important dates. Here is a list so far of what is scheduled:
May 6th - Mother's Day celebration 8:30-10, (if the mother can not attend, please send a female substitute or contact me).
May 20th - Father's Day celebration 8:30-10, (if the father can not attend, please send a male substitute or contact me).
May 31st - Conferences begin and extend until the last week of school.
June 3rd - Water Day - Great chance to get volunteer hours!
June 8th - Candle ceremony followed by end of the year reception 8:30-10:30.

Have a great rest of the weekend,
