This week we enjoyed singing through Maurice Sendak's short books of 'Alligators All Around' and 'Chicken Soup With Rice' in addition to more African folktakes. We also shared the story of George Washington Carver by Aliki called 'A Weed Is A Flower'.
Our daily explorations continued with new art activities, feather identifying works, and sewing activities. As much as some children would like to begin sewing, there are a few skills that must be mastered first. These skills such as threading a needle, tying a knot, and following a pattern must be complete before children sew. Luckily, we have activities that allow children to practice tying knots and many patterning works.
Every area of our classroom has works within a sequence from simple to complex. This sequence assists in the mastery of specific physical and cognitive skills. If you notice that your child struggles with a daily task at home be sure that he or she understands the steps and can complete them before being expected to master the task independently.
Ms. Townson helped one of the first through third grade classrooms share a presentation about Black History Month with us before leaving school on Friday. Although March is around the corner, we accept any presentations by children throughout the year and welcome you to schedule an appointment if you wish to present.
This Friday March 4th we have a Pajama party from 2-5 PM. Children are encouraged to bring a change of pajamas. If we have enough participants, this will be our final pajama party of the year.
This Saturday March 5th is our school's annual Family Fit and Fun Festival! Tickets that are purchased for $10 may be used to buy food and items featured at the festival. If you would like to volunteer for the day or have a booth, please contact the CRMA Green Committee.
Now that March is here we will shift our continent study from Africa to Asia. As always, we invite families to share any cultural items, pictures, stories, recipes, or music from Asia as an addition to our exploration.
Have a wonderful week!
Ms. Joanna Boone
