First and foremost, thanks to all of the families that brought items to our annual Hispanic Heritage luncheon. It was a great success. The children sampled traditional foods from Hispanic countries in the culmination of our month-long study. We will continue a study of the Americas and in the month of November we will look at the countries of North America and the Caribbean.
As always, we invite families to share items, stories, recipes, and music from this area of the world. If you are interested in a short presentation, you may e-mail me to discuss a time that will work for the presentation.
In addition to this week being a little shorter than normal, each day gave us a chance to show school spirit in collaboration with a fundraiser for Unicef. On Monday we started our day by introducing the stuffed toys that were present and I asked the children why the toys were special to them. The most common response was, "because it sleeps with me". However, one child commented that their toy was special because it was "very small".
Tuesday was team jersey day. Although most children wore shirts and jackets of Florida teams, one child wore a shirt supporting the USA Olympic Beach Volleyball team, (three time gold medalists). Wednesday's crazy hair day showed us a lot of colors and styles that we've never seen before. Perhaps it will add to inspiration for any future costuming events.
